Images alignment is fundamentally the most important step to get right in a Photogrammetry scan, as that’s what will determine the quality of all subsequent processes. In Photogrammetry processing software can be a bit tricky sometimes, a bit indeterministic even.
Here are a few tips that I’ve come across over the years of working with Reality Capture in getting image datasets to properly align.
If you captured the dataset in its RAW format (available with DSLR’s/drones), you should take advantage of the ability to adjust processing settings to reveal details in the images that were not visible.
By doing so…
Together, we will be using some of their fantastic aerial scans of French chateaus, forts and castles, cityscapes, and more to turn them into puzzles for Puzzling Places.
Down the line, as we get closer to the full game’s release, we will be announcing more details about the upcoming puzzles as well as more content partnerships with Photogrammetry companies.
Gerpho3D pioneered the use of large scale photogrammetry to create “3D aerial photos” in 2012, when this…
Today, we have an very exciting announcement to make — Puzzling Places is coming to PlayStation VR!
We are excited to work with Sony to bring Puzzling Places to PlayStation VR in Winter of 2021, bringing meditative VR puzzling to a whole new audience.
We’re still continuing to develop Puzzling Places for Oculus Quest and Quest 2.
We are currently waiting to hear back from Oculus about bringing Puzzling Places to the Oculus Quest Store and will post any updates as soon as they are available.
If you’d like to get your hands on some of our puzzles, Puzzling…
Today, we’re launching Puzzling Places — Beta v4.1, our biggest feature and content update to our free preview app yet, which will now be the main app to play Patreon puzzles with moving forward.
The update includes a total of 6 puzzles to play (one new freebie!!), ranging between 20 pieces all the way to 200 pieces, with new and immersive soundscapes, new audio regions, updated environments, and more.
Puzzling Places — Beta now…
Being a Photogrammetry artist and posting on Sketchfab for quite a few years, I’ve developed a workflow for uploading pieces to Sketchfab and making them look great.
This post covers:
This post assumes that you know the basics of capturing for Photogrammetry and using Photogrammetry processing software. For a more basic guide, refer to my Getting Started with Photogrammetry post.
This is part one of a three-part series, where we explain the details of some of the large challenges we faced while making this Photogrammetry VR Experience we made for Audi’s CES 2020 demo.

Tips for people using RC, running into trouble and not finding enough documentation about it to figure out what to do.
I will be adding more to this as I encounter issues and overcome them.

Alignment immediately fails. “Feature detection completed in 0 seconds”
Solution: Reset Alignment settings and try again.
After resetting, you can change certain settings and try again. This time, it most likely will not immediately fail.
EDIT: A member of the RC team responded with a solution as well:
Over the past 2.5 years, I’ve had the privilege of talking with some of the most brilliant designers, scientists, and engineers about their craft to understand the underlying principles that make it all work.
We’ve covered everything from Design, Science, Technology, Culture & Society, and Art of the emerging Spatial Computing industry.

This month, I started a series of tutorials (Read Part 1 here) on the basic techniques of 3D scanning technique called Photogrammetry, which is used to create incredibly detailed and photorealistic 3D scans of environments, people, objects, anything!
Scanning indoor places has its own set of tricks to know and learn from.
Typically LIDAR laser scanners have been used by construction companies to map out interior spaces, however its price can be totally unreasonable (ranging from 10–100k) for a one-man army like me.
This series are the steps in…
With the recent advancements in computer vision, spatial computing devices (VR/AR headsets), high quality cameras in our pockets, and open sourced software, a 3D capturing method called Photogrammetry is becoming more accessible to game developers, photographers, as well as VFX artists.
You’ve probably seen all the cool videos, played games with hyper-realistic assets (like, or even visited Photogrammetry locations in VR. So, here’s how to get your feet wet into capturing Photogrammetry with your smartphone and free software!
