Tip: RealityCapture model auto rotation fix

If you find your photogrammetry model rotated in a super weird position once you align your images, this might be due to the images having bad GPS data (ie, most smartphone images).

Images with GPS data

However, if they do have GPS data (you can tell if they do whether or not the image thumbnails in the Scene 3D viewport have these trailing yellow lines), the best solution is to go to Alignment Settings and turn off “Use camera priors for georeferencing”.

Once you do, re-align the images and RC will do its best to set the rotation of the model upright (it typically does a good job with it).

Images without GPS Data

If your photos do not have GPS data (you can tell if they do whether or not the image thumbnails have these trailing yellow lines), then the simple fix is to manually rotate the model after alignment (using the setting in Reconstruction Settings > “Set Ground Plane”).
